ABOUT US

1. Who we are

We are believers from Vandalia and the surrounding communities.  We are Lutherans.  But above all, we are a community that learns the way of Jesus and shares his Good News.  We believe that this world would be a better place if everyone knew God’s loving care, and we want to create this world in our church, in the communities with live and work at, and beyond.  We won’t always get it all right.  But that doesn’t stop us from trying.

2. Where we come from

St. John’s has been making Christ’s love and grace known in the Vandalia-Butler community since 1858, when a group of thirty people started to worship in Vandalia.  Throughout the years, the Lord has added to our numbers.  We have added choirs and bell choirs.  We have shared our food with people in need.  We are ministering to young and old alike, in Vandalia and beyond, and we love and support one another until this day.

3. Where we are going

We realize that the last couple of years have been tough for everyone.  That’s why now more than ever, we long to provide you with a place to find a faith family, a place to rest your soul, and a place to ask your questions about God and the Christian faith.

4. What this means for you

Most importantly, that you are always welcome at St. John’s!  No matter what age, race, or gender identity, we want you to be yourself.

If you want to plan on joining us you can click here to learn more about our in-person gatherings.  Or if you'd simply like to get in touch with a person on our team directly, fill out the contact form below.
